The Missing Piece of GLP-1 Success

Can I Ask You a Question?

When you started your GLP-1 medication, what were you hoping would change?

For many people, it's the first time in years they've felt like food isn't constantly on their mind. They finally feel hopeful. They start eating less, the scale begins to move, and for a while it feels like everything is working exactly the way they imagined.

Then something changes.

Maybe the weight loss slows down.

Maybe your energy disappears.

Maybe you're dealing with nausea, constipation, or wondering why you just don't feel as good as you thought you would.

If that's where you are today, I want you to hear this first:

You're not failing.

And your body isn't working against you.

You're learning how to use a medication that changes the way you experience hunger, fullness, and eating. Unfortunately, many people are prescribed these medications without being taught how to support their body along the way.

That's the conversation I wish more people were having.

Let's Change the Question

When someone tells me their GLP-1 "stopped working," I don't immediately think the medication is the problem.

Instead, I start asking questions.

"What have you been able to eat?"

"How's your energy?"

"What does movement look like right now?"

"How are you sleeping?"

Those questions tell me much more than the number on the scale ever could.

Instead of asking,

"Why isn't this working?"

I encourage my clients to ask,

"What might my body be trying to tell me?"

That question shifts us from frustration to curiosity—and that's often where the real progress begins.

Four Things Your Body May Be Trying to Tell You

1. "I Need More Nourishment."

One of the first conversations I have with clients goes something like this.

I ask,

"Walk me through everything you ate yesterday."

There's usually a long pause.

Then they say something like,

"Now that I think about it...it really wasn't very much."

This is incredibly common.

When a GLP-1 reduces your appetite, it's easy to unintentionally eat too little. Your body may not be asking for food the way it used to, but it still needs nourishment to think clearly, move well, recover, and support your everyday life.

Eating less doesn't automatically mean eating enough.

One thing to try this week: Instead of focusing only on eating less, ask yourself, "Did I give my body what it needed today?"

2. "Help Me Protect My Muscle."

One of the biggest misconceptions about weight loss is that every pound lost is body fat.

It isn't.

Without enough protein and regular strength training, we also increase the risk of losing muscle along the way.

That's one of the reasons I'm so passionate about helping people protect muscle during weight loss.

Muscle supports your strength, metabolism, mobility, and long-term health. My goal isn't simply to help people lose weight—it's to help them feel strong while they do it.

One thing to try this week: Add two strength-training sessions to your calendar, even if they're only twenty minutes long. Small, consistent steps make a difference.

💜 A Thought to Hold Onto

The goal isn't simply to lose weight. It's to build a body that has the strength and energy to enjoy the life you're working so hard to create.

3. "I Need a Little More Support."

GLP-1 medications intentionally slow how quickly food leaves your stomach. That's one of the ways they help you feel full longer.

But for some people, that slower digestion can also mean nausea, bloating, constipation, or simply feeling uncomfortable.

Your body isn't necessarily telling you the medication is wrong for you.

It may simply be asking for more support.

That could mean drinking more water, increasing fiber gradually, eating smaller meals, or talking with your healthcare provider about ways to better manage side effects.

One thing to try this week: Carry a water bottle with you and make hydration part of your daily routine instead of waiting until you're thirsty.

4. "Don't Forget Where We're Headed."

This might be the most important conversation of all.

One day, whether it's months or years from now, you'll likely ask yourself:

"Now what?"

The medication is one tool.

But it isn't the destination.

The real goal is building habits that continue supporting your health long after the excitement of watching the scale move begins to fade.

Because lasting success isn't just about losing weight.

It's about creating a life you can sustain.

One thing to try this week: Choose one healthy habit that has nothing to do with the scale. Maybe it's getting to bed a little earlier, taking a walk after dinner, or eating breakfast instead of skipping it.

Why This Matters

This is exactly why I created the P³ Framework.

For years, I watched conversations about GLP-1 medications focus almost entirely on one outcome:

Weight loss.

And while weight loss can absolutely improve health, I believe we should be asking a bigger question.

"How do you want to feel?"

At Purpose & Performance Coaching, we believe your health journey should help you preserve your strength, protect your health, and perform in the areas of life that matter most.

Because success isn't just measured by the number on the scale.

It's measured by having the energy, confidence, and health to fully enjoy your life.

💜 Coach's Corner

Can I leave you with one final thought?

Please don't measure your progress only by what the scale says this week.

Pay attention to how you're feeling.

Are you nourishing your body?

Are you getting stronger?

Do you have more energy than you did a month ago?

Are you building habits that you'll still be practicing a year from now?

Those are victories, too.

One of the things I love most about coaching is watching people stop chasing quick fixes and start building a healthier foundation. That shift doesn't happen overnight, but it does happen—one small choice at a time.

If you're on a GLP-1 journey, remember this:

The medication may quiet the food noise.

But you are the one building the habits that will carry you forward.

And that's something worth celebrating.

With you every step of the way,
